Awan Besar R&R Gets New 180kW EV Fast Charger

A new 180kW DC fast charging station has been launched at the Awan Besar Rest and Treatment Area (R&R) along the KESAS Highway, giving EV users another charging option when travelling on the highway.

The facility was officially launched by Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) Director General Ir. Mohd Hadzmir bin Yusoff.

The charging station is the result of a collaboration between Amanat Lebuhraya Rakyat (ALR) Berhad and Green EV Charge Sdn. Bhd., aimed at expanding EV charging facilities along Malaysia’s highway network.

Awan Besar R&R DC Fast Charging

Located at the Awan Besar R&R, the facility can charge two electric vehicles at the same time through two charging stations, with a maximum output of 180kW. This is intended to provide highway users with faster and more convenient access to EV charging.

The latest installation adds to the growing number of DC fast chargers available along Malaysia’s highways. So far, 148 DC fast charging points have been put into operation at strategic locations, particularly at R&R areas and Hentian Sebelah stops.

LLM is targeting a total of 500 EV charging points across the country’s highway network by 2030.

The expansion of charging infrastructure comes as EV adoption continues to grow in Malaysia, with highway charging facilities playing an increasingly important role for drivers travelling longer distances.

The Awan Besar installation is also part of wider efforts to develop Malaysia’s EV charging network and support the transition towards greener mobility.

With more charging points being added at R&R areas and other highway stops, EV users will have greater access to charging facilities while travelling between cities and states.
