WTCA Commences Export of Locally Assembled GAC GS3 EMZOOM to Vietnam

Malaysia-produced left-hand drive SUVs reinforce the country’s role as a regional automotive manufacturing and export hub

The line-off ceremony marks a significant milestone in the shared vision between WTC Automotif (M) Sdn Bhd (WTCA) and GAC International to position Malaysia as a strategic manufacturing and export hub for the ASEAN region.

The export programme reflects WTCA’s commitment to supporting Malaysia’s National Automotive Policy (NAP) while strengthening regional industrial collaboration, supply chain connectivity, and cross-border economic integration within ASEAN.

“The export of the locally assembled left-hand drive GAC GS3 EMZOOM to Vietnam is a proud achievement for WTCA and underscores the strength of our collaboration with GAC International,” said James Tan, Chief Executive Officer of Warisan TC Holdings Bhd.

“It demonstrates the proven capabilities of Tan Chong Group’s full CKD assembly operations, including in-house painting facilities, to produce Malaysian-made vehicles that meet the highest quality standards. This milestone also highlights our readiness to support GAC’s regional growth strategy.”

Tan added, “We are grateful for the continued support and guidance from GAC International, as well as the strategic backing from key government agencies including MITI, MIDA, and MARii. Their collaboration has been instrumental in making this export programme a reality. This achievement reflects the success of Malaysia’s National Automotive Policy in strengthening local manufacturing, vendor localisation programmes, and further solidifying Malaysia’s position as a key automotive hub in ASEAN.”

Local Capabilities Driving Regional Growth

The GS3 EMZOOM units destined for Vietnam are assembled at Tan Chong Group’s Segambut plant, which has been upgraded to support export production requirements. Dedicated body jigs were enhanced to accommodate left-hand drive manufacturing, ensuring full compliance with GAC International’s production standards.

The facility operates in accordance with GAC Motor’s stringent Global Production and Quality Standards, maintaining rigorous benchmarks for precision engineering, safety, and quality control. These globally recognised standards ensure every vehicle meets GAC’s expectations for reliability and durability, while laying the groundwork for future export programmes, including a second left-hand drive model from the Segambut plant.

The export initiative also involves close collaboration with Malaysian vendors through WTCA’s localisation programme, further strengthening the domestic automotive supply chain ecosystem. The programme is expected to generate employment opportunities, accelerate skills development, enhance local engineering capabilities, and increase participation by Malaysian suppliers in regional automotive exports.

Performance and Technology for Regional Markets

Powered by a 1.5-litre Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) turbocharged engine producing 177PS and 270Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed Wet Dual Clutch Transmission (WDCT), the GAC GS3 EMZOOM delivers strong acceleration, agile handling, and confident driving dynamics.

In addition to its sporty performance, the GS3 EMZOOM is equipped with a comprehensive suite of features including a dual-screen digital cockpit, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera system, Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and Full Automatic Parking Assist (FAPA), offering enhanced safety, convenience, and everyday usability for customers in Vietnam.

Establishing a Sustainable Export Programme

The first shipment of locally assembled GS3 EMZOOM units is scheduled to commence in June 2026, marking the beginning of a structured and sustainable export operation to Vietnam.

The programme forms a key pillar of WTCA’s regional expansion strategy and is expected to strengthen the GAC brand’s presence in the Vietnamese market. It also reflects growing momentum towards deeper intra-ASEAN trade collaboration, leveraging Malaysia’s manufacturing expertise to serve neighbouring markets more efficiently while enhancing regional economic connectivity.
