Mazda’s latest Is now More Reliable Than Volvo
Volvo, known for safety dethroned by Mazda's latest models

Mazda has overtaken Volvo to become the top-rated car brand for overall vehicle safety, with over 80% of its models earning “best” safety ratings, compared to just 25% for Volvo.
The key factors behind the rankings come down to how safety and usability are evaluated.
Consumer Reports’ “Safety Verdict” looks at crashworthiness, crash-avoidance technology, and how user-friendly cabin controls are. Mazda has performed strongly, with models like the CX-30, CX-50, CX-70, and CX-90 earning “Top Safety Pick” awards, the highest distinction from the IIHS.
Mazda’s commitment to including key, advanced safety features as standard across their lineup has been a major factor in their high scores. While Volvo remains a strong contender in safety, with many of its 2025/2026 models earning 5-star ratings from the NHTSA, Mazda’s current performance, especially in the 2026 safety rankings, highlights it as a superior choice for overall safety, according to the Consumer Reports analysis.
