150 Malaysians Have Already Ordered A GWM Tank 500 HEV

The massive GWM Tank 500 HEV SUV is currently retailing over here for RM 328,800.

The imposing GWM Tank 500 HEV has certainly generated significant interest among Malaysians, with a whopping 150 units already spoken for since order books opened on April 14th. That’s quite a response for a new nameplate in a niche segment, especially at its current price point of RM 328,800.

Officially unveiled at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025, the Tank 500 HEV serves as the flagship model in GWM’s expanding Malaysian lineup, positioned above the Tank 300. This E-segment SUV boasts impressive dimensions at 4,928 mm in length, 1,934 mm in width, and 1,905 mm in height, which places it in direct competition with established premium off-roaders like the Toyota Land Cruiser and even American SUVs such as the Ford Explorer.

The Tank 500’s exterior design makes a bold statement with its boxy proportions and premium styling cues. A large chrome-accented grille dominates the front fascia, complemented by substantial detailing throughout the body. Riding on 20-inch wheels that enhance its commanding presence, the SUV features American-inspired chrome trim surrounding the tail lamps at the rear.

Underneath its imposing exterior, the Tank 500 HEV houses a hybrid powertrain that combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 244 PS and 380 Nm of torque with an electric motor contributing 106 PS and 268 Nm. Combined system output is currently rated at 346 PS and 648 Nm. Power is managed through a nine-speed automatic transmission connected to a switchable four-wheel-drive system.

Built on a robust ladder-frame chassis, the Tank 500 HEV comes equipped with an impressive array of off-road technologies as standard. These include electronic front and rear differential locks, a mechanical centre differential lock, 11 selectable drive modes, off-road cruise control system, water wading depth detection, and a “Tank Turn” function for improved manoeuvrability in tight spaces.

Inside, the Tank 500 HEV;s 7-seat cabin features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other comfort features include power-adjustable front seats (8-way driver, 6-way passenger), driver seat memory function, ventilated seating for first and second rows, triple-zone climate control, air ioniser, panoramic sunroof, power-folding third-row seats, soft-close side-opening tailgate, and a 360º camera system with transparent chassis view.

Safety and driver assistance systems in the Tank 500 HEV are comprehensive, featuring autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane centering assist, curve speed reduction, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert with automatic braking, door opening warning, and a “wisdom dodge” feature for creating space when passing larger vehicles. Six airbags and stability control also come as standard in this massive off-roader.

The GWM Tank 500 HEV is fully imported (CBU) from GWM’s Rayong, Thailand facility and is currently available over here in three exterior colours: Crystal Gray, Hamilton White, and Sun Black.

Comprehensive warranty coverage for the Tank 500 HEV includes a lifetime warranty on engine, transmission, and hybrid system for first-hand private owners, an 8-year/200,000 km battery warranty, and a 6-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty. Customers who place a booking before May 18, 2025 will further receive a limited-edition premium gift set and 5 years of free maintenance.
