MINI Begins Local Assembly Of Its Countryman S ALL4 In Malaysia
The CKD Countryman S ALL4 is a whopping RM 90,000 cheaper than its previously CBU counterpart.
Following the launch of the fully-imported variant last year, MINI Malaysia has since recently announced that it has begun local assembly of the Countryman S ALL4 over here. And the really big news with this big CKD MINI is that it will soon be available with an estimated price tag of just RM 270,000 (with Extended Warranty & Service Package, RM 259,000 without), which is a whopping RM 90,000 less than what the RM 380,000 previously commanded by its CBU counterpart.
What more is that with this switch to local assembly, this mild-hybrid Countryman S ALL4 is incidentally to be nearly identical in price to its fully-electric SE counterpart. And just before anyone thinks that MINI has removed a bunch of stuff during its CKD transition too, this made-in-Kulim version is technically to be all but identical in spec to the ones that previously were shipped over Leipzig, Germany.
As per its CBU counterpart, the CKD Countryman S ALL4 comes kitted out up front with a set of LED headlights (enhanced with a high-beam assistant and three adjustable light signatures) flanking its Vibrant Silver-outlined (read: gold) octagonal grille. A set of 20-inch two-tone Windmill Spoke alloys meanwhile bring a bit of bling to its now boxier-than-ever profile, with its square rump in turn bookended by a pair of upright LED taillights with the Union Jack light signature.
Turning within the Countryman’s cabin now, MINI Malaysia has continued to spec the locally-assembled S ALL4 variant with the Favoured trim. This therefore means that a set of John Cooper Works sport seats are still to be found up front in this SUV, along with a 3D-knit fabric dashboard and door card wrap that gradates from a blue to copper hue towards the rear doors.
Found right in the middle of the Countryman’s aforementioned minimalistic fabric-lined dashboard is a 9.4-inch circular OLED touchscreen running the Android-based MINI Operating System 9, with further instrumentation for the driver provided through a heads-up display panel. Other noteworthy bits of kit found within this MINI SUV includes for it to feature a comfort access system, Comfort Package Plus, an interior rear-view mirror with automatic anti-dazzle function, headliner anthracite, as well as a 12-speaker 365 W Harman Kardon Surround Sound System.
Now under the hood of the CKD Countryman S ALL4 lies a 48 V mild-hybrid BMW B48 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, which sends 218 PS and 360 Nm through an 8-speed automatic gearbox to all four wheels. MINI currently claims for this electrified SUV to be capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds, before charging all the way up to a top speed of 228 km/h.
In terms of driving assistance, the CKD Countryman S ALL4 comes equipped with Driving Assistant as standard, which brings with it Lane Change Warning, Lane Departure Warning with active steering intervention, Speed Limit Info & Manual Speed Limit Assist, Cruise Control with braking function, Front Collision Warning with brake intervention, Evasion Assistant, Rear Crossing Traffic Warning with brake intervention, Rear-end Collision Prevention and Exit Warning. Also included in this MINI SUV is Parking Assistant Plus, which adds Park Assist, Reversing assistant up to 50m, Active Park Distance Control, Drive off monitoring, Rear panorama view, Parking view, Panorama view, Remote 3D View, BMW Drive Recorder and Anti-theft recorder (external).
Those who want all-speed adaptive cruise control with their Countryman S ALL4 however will have to subscribe to the Driving Assistant Plus package, which further adds, Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Manual and Automatic Speed Limit Assistant. The monthly subscription fee for this enhanced driver assist package comes in at RM 202, or buyers can simply pay a one-off fee of RM 4,481 to have it unlocked for the lifetime of the vehicle.
The locally-assembled MINI Countryman could be had in one of 6 exterior hues: Smokey Green, Slate Blue, Chili Red, Melting Silver, Nanuq White and Blazing Blue; while the interior upholstery option is only limited to Dark Petrol (Vintage Brown was previously an option on the CBU models). With Easy Drive Financing by BMW Group Financial Services Malaysia, this SUV could be owned with an estimated monthly instalment plan starting from RM 2,338 (based on estimates of 75% loan and 100,000 km mileage on a five-year tenure).
Benjamin Nagel, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia states, “2024 was a redefining year for MINI in Malaysia as we introduced the concept of Charismatic Simplicity for the first time here with the new generation of MINI that celebrates essential design, purposeful functionality, and the timeless appeal of the MINI spirit.
