The Proton e.MAS 5 Is Now Malaysia’s Cheapest New EV

The new all-electric Proton e.MAS 5 officially debuts with a Myvi-rivalling price of just RM 56,800.
We’ve all seen that tantalising teaser price, and quite a few have already placed an order for one.But the time has finally come for Proton to launch its e.MAS 5, and it arrives wearing a RM 56,800 price tag that is even lower than what was previously estimated!

Now it is worth noting here is that the RM 56,800 price applies to the entry-level Prime variant, which (to put it kindly) comes with a more modest kit list. The better-equipped Premium version meanwhile sits a fair bit higher RM 69,800, but yet this steeper price still keeps the e.MAS 5 comfortably in the lead as Malaysia’s most affordable brand-new EV.
Also worth pointing out here is that these prices already include a RM 3,000 exclusive launch rebate, valid until 31st December 2025. For the time being too, only the Premium variant will be available, with the Prime set to follow later on.

Still, to sweeten the deal, Proton is offering special ownership packages worth up to RM8,000 in conjunction with the e.MAS 5’s launch:
- Power Xchange – RM 2,000 rebate for deregistering a non-roadworthy vehicle
- Power Online – Five years of unlimited in-car data (worth RM 1,800)
- Power Financing – Five-year loan at 1.99% interest from Proton Commerce
- Power Home – Complimentary 7kW home charger (worth RM 1,500)
- Power Trade-In – RM 1,500 trade-in rebate via Carsome

Now for a little bit more on the e.MAS 5, this all-electric Proton is to be a localised version of the Geely Xingyuan (which just so happens to be one of China’s best-selling EVs in the first half of 2025). The model will be locally assembled at the Malaysian marque’s new Tanjung Malim plant, alongside the similarly Geely-derived e.MAS 7 SUV.
In terms of size, the e.MAS 5 roughly comparable to a Perodua Myvi, Here’s how the two stack up on paper:
| Model | Length (mm) | Width (mm) | Height (mm) | Wheelbase (mm) |
| Proton e.MAS 5 | 4,135 | 1,805 | 1,580 | 2,650 |
| Perodua Myvi | 3,895 | 1,735 | 1,515 | 2,500 |
Continuing on the practicality front, this small hatchback offers a relatively spacious 375-litre boot that expands to 1,320 litres with the rear seats folded. It is complemented by a 70-litre frunk and a total of 32 storage compartments throughout the cabin, including a 20-litre cubby beneath the centre console and a 28-litre drawer under the rear bench.

Both Prime and Premium variants of the e.MAS 5 will be rear-wheel drive, powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor (making it the first-ever rear-wheel drive Proton). The Premium variant gets the larger battery and more powerful motor, as detailed below:
| Specification | Prime | Premium |
| Power | 79 PS (58 kW) | 116 PS (85 kW) |
| Torque | 130 Nm | 150 Nm |
| 0–50 km/h | 4.4 seconds | 3.9 seconds |
| Top Speed | 125 km/h | 135 km/h |
| Battery Capacity | 30.12 kWh LFP | 40.16 kWh LFP |
| Range (WLTP) | 225 km | 325 km |
| DC Charging | 53 kW (30–80% in 21 mins) | 71 kW (30–80% in 21 mins) |
| AC Charging | 6.6 kW | 6.6 kW |
Due to its rear drive layout, the e.MAS 5 rides on a multi-link rear suspension setup, instead of the usual torsion beam found in most cars within its segment. Other pertinent technical figures that Proton have since touted was for the e.MAS 5 to feature a 4.95-metre turning circle, as well as a 36.9-metre braking distance from 100 km/h to 0 km/h.
