Blueshark R1 Electric Scooter Road Test In Selangor

Blueshark R1 Electric Scooter is now on sale and there are two models to choose from

Have you heard of Blueshark? Well, this is a company that produces battery powered scooters that look a lot like modern Vespa’s. They also have two locally produced rivals which is Eclimo scooters and Treeletrik scooters.

Both the rivals mentioned above have been in Malaysia for some years and with little interest for electric mobility before 2021, they had small sales interest and little assistance from MAAri (the automotive institute) before as the MAAri leadership at the time was very corrupt and grant money was going to ‘friendly’ parties who produced nothing.

Now comes Blueshark, and they are taking a lot of social media attention with their partnership with Gentari and Petronas.

Blueshark contacted us to test ride their R1 right after their big re-launch in March 2023.

From its parked position you will realise that the Blueshark R1 is a sleek looking vehicle. This user-friendly scooter offers a convenient and eco-friendly way to navigate or crowded urban environment as it has a compact size.

The ‘smartphone’ looking screen is great until the sun hits it and then vision is reduced. There is a reverse gear for easy parking and for the older riders to have less issue.

Like new Honda vehicles on sale, there is a version of Honda Lanewatch which is a camera that is activated whenever to use your left or right turn signal and the screen gives you a good view of any vehicles on your side.

The R1 is built with high-quality materials, ensuring durability of its plastic exterior parts. Additionally, the Blueshark R1’s suspension system delivers a comfortable ride, absorbing bumps and vibrations along the way which we with our bad back monitored closely.

Conclusion

So, the Blueshark R1 provides for an easy and convenient mode of transportation in crowded Malaysian cities, offering simplicity and eco-friendliness. Each battery will take about 3 hours to get a full charge which provided effortless transportation while reducing your environmental impact for about 45 to 50 kilometers.

So, with two fully charged batteries, you could get a possible 100 kilometer riding distance. So, it is not advisable for interstate riding, until all Petronas stations start offering battery swapping which is being negotiated right now.

Visit their showroom in Glenmarie and take a no obligation test ride and you might actually start considering buying a unit, male or female riders, you will make a difference in reducing emissions and you will be saving the Malaysian governments fuel subsidy bill.
