Volkswagen ID. Tiguan Debuts With Up To 600 km Range

Volkswagen has unveiled the new ID. Tiguan, an electric SUV that will replace the ID.4 and ID.5 when it arrives in early 2027. The new model combines a redesigned exterior with a more premium interior, updated technology and a claimed driving range of up to 600 km.

The ID.4 and ID.5 have recorded more than 950,000 units produced between them. The ID. Tiguan will continue their role in Volkswagen’s electric vehicle lineup, while being sold alongside the petrol, diesel and hybrid-powered Tiguan.

Three powertrain options will be available. The entry-level rear-wheel-drive version produces 140 kW (190 PS) and uses a 58 kWh battery. A more powerful rear-wheel-drive variant delivers 210 kW (286 PS) with a 77 kWh battery, while the range-topping 4MOTION all-wheel-drive version produces 220 kW (299 PS) and also uses a 77 kWh battery.

Depending on the configuration, the ID. Tiguan offers a WLTP range of up to 600 km. Towing capacity reaches 1,800 kg for the 58 kWh version and 2,000 kg for models with the larger battery.

Practicality is another focus, with a 32-litre front storage compartment and a rear luggage capacity of up to 534 litres. Buyers can choose from four trim levels: Trend, Life, Style and R-Line.

The exterior adopts Volkswagen’s new Pure Positive design language, replacing the softer crossover styling of its predecessors with a more upright and muscular SUV appearance. The cabin has also received a major overhaul, with improved materials, physical controls and a redesigned dashboard.

Depending on the specification, the interior features a 10-inch digital instrument display, a 15-inch infotainment screen and a new 12-inch passenger display. The latter includes a privacy mode that allows the front passenger to use entertainment features without distracting the driver. Volkswagen has also introduced retro-themed displays inspired by the Golf IV, alongside virtual representations of six classic Volkswagen models.

Other features include two Qi2 wireless charging points, a multifunction steering wheel with physical buttons and a redesigned centre console with easier access to audio and air-conditioning controls.

Driver assistance and convenience equipment includes standard one-pedal driving and the new Connected Travel Assist, which can provide assisted lane changes on motorways and respond to red traffic lights. Depending on the variant, buyers can also opt for ventilated front seats with massage and memory functions, a 480-watt Harman Kardon sound system and a panoramic sunroof.

Additional features include a smartphone-based Digital Key and a Vehicle-to-Load adapter for powering external electrical devices.

Pre-sales in Germany and several other European markets are scheduled to begin on 13 October, with prices starting at €42,695. The ID. Tiguan is expected to enter the market in early 2027.
