2027 Honda Civic Type R Gets Sharper Performance and More Standard Tech
Honda has updated the Civic Type R for 2027, adding several performance changes alongside new comfort and technology features.
The refreshed model gets a redesigned front fascia with a larger grille opening and deeper front splitter. Honda says the changes improve airflow and engine cooling while increasing downforce. The suspension damping in +R mode has also been optimised to improve road contact and reduce body movement when cornering.
The Rev Match system has been updated for quicker engine response during downshifts, while the brake pedal now uses a yoke spring to reduce play and provide a more direct feel.
The Civic Type R continues to use a turbocharged 2.0-litre K20C engine producing 315 hp. It remains exclusively available with a manual transmission and is described by Honda as the most powerful Honda production vehicle sold in the US.
For 2027, Honda has also made several changes to improve everyday usability. Heated front seats are now standard for the first time, while the front seats receive a revised perforation pattern. The cabin also gets Ultrasuede material on the upper dashboard and front door panels, along with darker grey finishes for the aluminium shift knob, door handles and centre console trim.
A new auto-dimming rear-view mirror has also been added, while the updated model receives black climate control and air vent knobs and a new diamond-pattern dashboard trim.
Technology has also been expanded. The Civic Type R now comes with Google built-in, including Google Maps and Google Play, along with Google Gemini. Alexa is also built in, while two USB-C ports have been added to the centre console alongside the existing wireless phone charger.
The Honda Sensing safety suite remains standard and receives several updates for 2027. The Collision Mitigation Braking System gains improved visibility for motorcycles and bicycles, while Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist have been revised for smoother operation.
Post-Collision Braking is also now standard, helping reduce the potential damage from subsequent collisions.
The 2027 Civic Type R will be available in four exterior colours: Championship White, Boost Blue Pearl, Sonic Gray Pearl and the new Meteorite Gray Metallic.
Honda says the Civic Type R is celebrating its 30th anniversary globally in 2027 and its 10th anniversary in North America. The updated model is scheduled to arrive at US dealerships this month, with an MSRP of US$48,695 before destination charges.
