Honda Malaysia Starts Production of New City Hatchback

Honda Malaysia has officially started production of the New City Hatchback at its Melaka manufacturing plant, ahead of the model’s return to the Malaysian market.
The production rollout was attended by His Excellency SHIKATA Noriyuki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Malaysia, and marks another step in Honda Malaysia’s local manufacturing operations, which began in 2003.

Honda Malaysia said its Melaka plant continues to support the company’s operations while contributing to the local automotive industry. The company has worked with around 500 local suppliers, forming part of its local supply chain.
Across Honda Malaysia, its dealer network and supplier partners, the company has a workforce of nearly 20,000 associates. Honda Malaysia said this network also supports local talent development and employment opportunities.
The production of the New City Hatchback follows the recent launch of the New City Sedan in Malaysia, bringing the refreshed versions of both City body styles into the local lineup.
The City Hatchback was first introduced in Malaysia in 2021 and has recorded more than 51,000 units in cumulative sales since then.
For its latest update, the City Hatchback receives refreshed styling, improved connectivity and additional technologies. It also retains Honda’s ULTRA Seats, which allow the rear seating area to be configured in different ways depending on the user’s needs.
Honda Malaysia positions the updated hatchback as a model aimed at drivers looking for a combination of styling, practicality and flexible interior space.
The New City Hatchback is the latest addition to Honda Malaysia’s locally manufactured model range as the company continues its local production operations at the Melaka plant.
Honda Malaysia has not yet detailed all local specifications and pricing for the New City Hatchback in the announcement, with further information expected closer to its Malaysian market launch.
